Nvidia agrees to buy Hugging Face for $12.9 billion
Hugging Face is part of the corporate machine, now. Nvidia has agreed to buy the open-source AI platform Hugging Face in a deal valued at roughly $12.9–13 billion, one of its largest acquisitions. Hugging Face hosts millions of models, datasets, and applications used by more than 18 million developers. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the platform will remain open, supporting models, clouds, and hardware from multiple vendors rather than requiring Nvidia chips. The transaction includes retention equity for employees and is expected to close in the first half of 2027 pending regulatory approvals. The move expands Nvidia’s reach beyond GPUs into the developer tools and distribution layer for open AI models.
